Fans of the Bristol Eastern/Bristol Central rivalry will want to clear their schedules for the upcoming week.

The Rams and Lancers are scheduled to clash three times this week across two different sports, highlighting a busy week ahead for the area sports slate, the penultimate week of the regular season.

The three matchups will also take place across consecutive dates, starting this Thursday when the Eastern and Central girls volleyball teams meet at Bristol Eastern at 6:30 p.m. The atmosphere won’t be the same due to spectator limitations and the absence of visiting fans, but the competition on the court shouldn’t waver from the norm.

The two teams met back on Oct. 3, when the Lancers beat the Rams 3-1, also at home. Central will be looking to take down Eastern for the first time in nearly 25 years.

On Friday, the two schools will meet again in boys soccer, just over a week after meeting for the first time this season back on Tuesday afternoon, which resulted in a 4-1 win for the Lancers. The Rams will be home this time for the 3:45 p.m. start, and will be looking for a more competitive showing than last week, when Eastern won by more than one goal for the first time in the teams’ last seven head-to-head matchups.

The two girls soccer teams will also clash on Friday, with Eastern hosting Central at 3:45 p.m. The two teams played to a 1-1 tie back on Oct. 3.

Central boys soccer’s action for the week begins on the road Monday against Plainville, which lost to Eastern on a late goal last week. The girls soccer team and girls volleyball team also face the Blue Devils this week on Monday and Tuesday, respectively.

For Eastern, the girls volleyball team opens the week against Southington, looking to remain undefeated on the season, while the girls soccer team takes on the Blue Knights on Tuesday. The local battles continue with the cross country teams traveling to New Britain on Wednesday, while the girls swim team heads to Plainville on that same day.

In New Britain, the cross country meet is the only local battle for the Hurricanes this week. The girls volleyball team hosts Farmington and Lewis Mills on Monday and Thursday, respectively, while the boys and girls soccer teams face the same two teams this week, on Tuesday and Thursday.

Berlin also has just one local competition this week, and it’s also in cross country with the Redcoats visiting Newington on Wednesday. The girls volleyball team has a busy week, traveling to Platt and Bulkeley on consecutive days to start the week before hosting Middletown on Thursday. Meanwhile, both soccer teams face Rocky Hill on Tuesday before the girls team heads to Maloney on Thursday and the boys team welcomes Platt at Sage Park at 6 p.m.

Newington field hockey has two games this week, traveling to Hall at 5 p.m. and hosting Northwest Catholic on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. The boys soccer team visits Maloney on Tuesday, while the girls soccer team will play host to Middletown. Both teams will be back in action again on Thursday with the boys team hosting Rocky Hill and the girls team visiting Rocky Hill. The girls volleyball team visits Bulkeley on Monday and Wethersfield on Thursday.

It’s an interesting week for the Plainville boys soccer team, which has three games this week, two of them against Central. After hosting the Rams on Monday, the two teams will play again two days later in Bristol, before the Blue Devils close out the week against Southington on Friday. The girls soccer team has two local bouts this week, hosting Central on Tuesday and traveling to Southington on Thursday. The girls volleyball teams for Plainville and Southington also clash on Thursday in Southington.

The Blue Knights have a busy week themselves, especially in field hockey, which hosts Avon on Monday before hitting the road to take on Lewis Mills on Wednesday and Granby Memorial on Friday. The swim team faces Maloney on Wednesday, while the cross country team takes on Farmington that same day.

Goodwin Tech and Innovation boys soccer square off in a Hardware City battle on Monday at 3:45 p.m. at Innovation, and two days later, the Gladiators will compete against New Britain in cross country.

Back in Bristol, Terryville girls volleyball has a pair of matches this week, both on the road against Nonnewaug and Northwestern on Monday and Thursday, respectively. The boys soccer team has three games this week, hosting Northwestern on Tuesday, visiting Shepaug Valley on Wednesday before heading to Thomaston on Friday. The girls soccer team is on the road against Northwestern on Tuesday and is home against Thomaston on Friday.

St. Paul begins its week with a girls soccer game against Wolcott on Monday, while the boys team also plays Wolcott on Friday. The swim team has two meets this week, against Wilby/Kaynor Tech on Tuesday and Torrington on Friday.
