For the third consecutive day on Thursday, the UConn womenâ€™s basketball team saw its schedule changed.
The charm was that the Huskies were adding a game this time.
UConn and the Big East announced that No. 3 UConn will entertain Seton Hall at Gampel Pavilion on Wednesday. Game time is 4:30 p.m. and it will be televised by SNY.
On Tuesday, the Huskiesâ€™ showdown at No. 6 Baylor scheduled for Thursday night was canceled. Twenty-four hours later it was announced that UConnâ€™s game at Xavier was postponed as Xavier began a pause to team activities due to contact tracing.
The Big East moved the second meeting of the season between the Huskies and Pirates up to Wednesday from Feb. 10. Seton Hall had an opening as its game at Creighton set for next Wednesday was postponed last Tuesday due to a pause with the Bluejays.
Seton Hall (3-3, 1-2), which has had a pair of pauses due to COVID-19 since the start of the season in November, will play four games in seven days starting Monday when it visits Butler. The Pirates will then play at UConn Wednesday before hosting Marquette on Jan. 15 and Butler on Jan. 17.
The Huskies defeated Seton Hall 92-65 at Walsh Gymnasium on Dec. 15 as Paige Bueckers (25), Christyn Williams (21), Aaliyah Edwards (17), and Olivia-Nelson Ododa (16) combined for 79 points.
The Pirates will have former UConn guard Andra Espinoza-Hunter available for the rematch. The Ossining, New York, native - who played in seven games for UConn in the first semester of the 2017-18 season before leaving - was granted a legislative relief waiver by the NCAA on Dec. 22 after she transferred to Seton Hall from Mississippi State. She played in her first game Sunday.
UConn is sheduled to entertain Providence on Saturday at Gampel Pavilion.
The Friars (5-6, 3-3) defeated Butler 62-50 at Mullaney Gymnasium on Thursday. PC jumped out to a 17-2 lead and was ahead 34-23 at halftime. Butler got within nine with 3:42 left before the Friars went on a 7-0 run to ice it. Junior center Mary Baskerville of Enfield had 13 points, seven rebounds, and two blocked shots in the win.
