PLYMOUTH - The Terryville girls soccer team failed to score a goal for the first time in three matches in Tuesday afternoon’s 2-0 loss to Housatonic Regional. These were also the first two goals the Kangaroos allowed in the same span.
The Kangaroos struggle to create offensive opportunities against the top-ranked team in Class S. Housatonic goalkeeper Maggie Bickford was only forced to make two saves while Terryville’s Ally Drake made 10.
Terryville will look to earn its neck win and bring its record above .500 Thursday when it travels to Nonnewaug.
Goodwin Tech 0, MLC 5: The Gladiators took the field for the first time in 11 days Tuesday and took on MLC, the second best team in Class S, and they played like a team that was nearing two weeks without in-game experience.
Goodwin Tech was shut out for the first time this season while allowing its second-highest goal total of the season in the 5-0 loss. Goalkeeper Arianna White finished the match with more goals allowed than saves (4).
The Gladiators return to action Friday with a home match against Prince Tech.
Bristol Eastern 2, Avon 0: Two first-half goals were all the Lancers needed against Avon to earn their second consecutive win of the season.
Junior Ciara Collins started the scoring early by blasting a 35-yard boot over the head of Avon goalkeeper Tanvi Raman 10 minutes into the match. Emily Nelson snuck the second goal in just before the halftime horn with a left-footed shot that started with a steal by Cecelia Gilbert and assisted by Gilbert and freshman Emma Stavens.
Eastern goalkeeper Gracde D’Amato posted her second clean sheet of the season to go along with nine saves. The Lancers next match is Thursday on the road against Plainville, the team D’Amato’s first shutout came against.
Goodwin Tech 3, Innovation 2: The Gladiators and Ravens needed all five sets to decide Tuesday’s match and Goodwin Tech successfully rebounded from a 2-0 deficit to defeat Innovation.
Innovation took the first two sets 25-19 and 25-21, led offensively by Patrice Broughton who finished the match with 12 kills. Goodwin Tech, however, came roaring back to win the next three sets 25-18, 25-17 and 15-5 to avoid suffering its second loss of the season.
Nathalie DeLarosa posted 13 kills and 10 digs for the Gladiators while Tabetha Trammell finished with 13 assists and seven digs. They will attempt to earn their fifth consecutive win Wednesday at home against Classic Magnet while the Ravens are off until Friday when they face Capital Prep on the road.
BOYS CROSS COUNTRY

Ryan O’Donnell, Ryan Laskowski, Robbie Pedersen and Noah Botto were the next four Kangaroos to finish as their records falls to 2-3 on the season. Their next race is Friday on the road against Litchfield.

Taylor Barnett was the other Kangaroo in the top 10 with a time of 26:15, which was good enough for sixth place.
Terryville will face Litchfield on the road Friday in pursuit of its first win.
Newington 4, Berlin 1: Newington put forth a dominant offensive performance Tuesday to earn its fifth win of season in a home match against the Redcoats. Newington put 26 shots on goal in the 80 minutes and found the back of the net four times.
Reed Campbell and Mannasah Dalomba put Newington on the scoreboard in the first half with goals in the fourth and 37th minutes of the contest, respectively. After assisting on both of those goals, Christian Amaral finished his own scoring opportunity early in the second half and Daniel Ellis finished off the match with a goal 10 minutes later.
Ethan Naumann provided Berlin’s lone score of the day as the Redcoats start the second half of their season with only one win. They will look to double their win total Thursday when they host Middletown at 6 p.m.
