WEST HARTFORD - The Newington 17U American Legion baseball team battled through five tight innings against first-place West Hartford on Monday night, but in the end, West Hartford showed why it’s the top team in Zone 1.

Locked in a 4-2 game in the bottom of the sixth, West Hartford (11-4) plated four runs in the sixth to grab an 8-2 win and drop Newington (7-7) to .500 on the season.

Danny Braga held West Hartford’s lineup in check through 4 2/3 innings, allowing just one earned run, but Joe Dooley and Ixael Albino finally came through for West Hartford. Dolley finished the evening with three RBI, while Albino chipped in a two-run triple.

Jordan Barnes led Newington’s offense with a pair of hits and three stolen bases, while Sean Hurley added a single, a walk and two runs scored. Andrew Bugnacki and Austyn Howe also found the hit column for Newington in the losing effort.
