MIDDLETOWN - The last time the Newington co-op ice hockey team has secured a trip to Yale University’s Ingalls Rink, many of the current players were still in elementary or middle school.

That drought is over.

Behind a balanced attack on offense, the Indians punched their first ticket to the Division III semifinals since 2013, when the team won the title, with a 3-2 win over Tri-Town Thursday night at Wesleyan University.

Ethan Ranger, Andrew Graham and Matt Lavoie scored the three goals for Newington (17-5-0).

Ranger’s was unassisted on a power play with four minutes left in the first period. Graham’s came on a breakaway to make it 2-0 with 8:30 left in the second. Lavoie put away the deciding goal on a Graham assist with five minutes left in the third to make it 3-1.

Tri-Town scored its second goal with 2:46 left in regulation, but the Indians were able to hold on for the win.
