WOODBRIDGE - The Newington boys basketball team’s season came to an end in heartbreaking fashion during the second round of the Division II state tournament on Wednesday night.

The 12th-seeded Indians, battling for an upset against No. 5 Amity, lost 56-54 on the road in a tight finish, as the Spartans advance to take on fourth-seeded Manchester Friday night.

Newington finishes the season with a record of 17-5, coming one basket short of forcing overtime and potentially advancing to the tournament quarterfinals.
