Sports Roundup: Southington boys soccer nets three in second half to defeat Newington

NEWINGTON - The host Newington boys soccer team took a 1-0 lead at halftime, but Southington scored three second half goals for a 3-1 victory on Friday.

Hermish Adarkwah gave the Indians the 1-0 lead off an assist from Trey Sadler, but Bryce Worth netted the equalizer for the Blue Devils and Joseph Colaccino added two more goals for the lead.

Goalkeeper Jack DeGirolamo made 10 saves for Newington (4-8-1), while John Griffin stopped 10 shots for Southington (6-5-2).


Innovation 7, Capital Prep 1: The Ravens got two goals each from Aryanna Townsend, Melinda Knopf and Victoria Piechota, plus a single goal from Kelsey Walicki, as they cruised to a victory at home. Piechota had a pair of assists, with Knopf helping on one goal.

Goalkeeper Lianna Giles made six saves for Innovation (9-3-2).

Gynaia Morgan had the lone goal for Capital Prep (0-11), with India Reyes stopping 13 shots.


Newington 3, New Britain 2: The Hurricanes stormed to a 2-0 lead in sets, but the Indians battled back to win the final three, picking up a 23-25, 21-25, 25-23, 25-14, 16-14 victory in New Britain.

For New Britain (11-6), Raven Jarrett had 22 kills and Nariely Andujar had 12 digs and seven service points. Freshman Charliann Pedrava had a sensational effort, going a perfect 18-for-18 serving, with 10 service points, 17 digs and seven kills.

For Newington (12-6), Meghan Roberts had 24 kills and four aces and Carelys Denicez had nine kills and 18 digs.

Southington 3, Conard 0: After a close opening set, the Blue Knights pulled away for a 26-24, 25-12, 25-13 victory at home.

For Southington (13-2), Nolyn Allen had 14 digs, Steph Zera had 34 assists and 13 digs, Brooke Cooney had eight kills and four aces and Hannah Zelina had 11 kills.

Conard dropped to 11-6.
