NEWINGTON – Businesspeople in town will be hitting the greens next week.

The Newington Chamber of Commerce’s 2nd annual Golf Tournament is set to take place Tuesday, Aug. 16 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Indian Hill Country Club, 111 Golf St., Newington.

While many Chamber members are planning to attend, the tournament is open to all members of the public who enjoy golf and wish to support local youth.

The Chamber’s Scholarship Fund awards two $1,000 scholarships each June to graduating seniors in financial need who are planning to study business.

“We have about 42 players so far and we could accommodate up to 60,” Chamber Executive Director Leslie Civitello said Wednesday.

The tournament began in 2021 under her new leadership of the Chamber.

“We were happy with the results from last year and this year people have been slow to sign up; the heat wave didn’t help,” Civitello said. “With the break in the weather we’re really looking forward to getting out there and playing some good golf.”

The full day event will begin with 8 a.m. registration, breakfast and a 9 a.m. shotgun start. The ticket price also includes 18 holes of golf and a barbecue luncheon with raffles, courtesy of Indian Hill’s Head Golf Professional Wayne Smith.

“We’re going to have a golf ball launcher on the tenth hole and we’re looking to a do a ball drop 50/50 raffle sponsored by B&M Tree Service as well,” Civitello said.

Raffle prizes will include gift cards to local businesses and restaurants, golf equipment, massages and beauty products as well as bottles of wine and liquor.
