NEWINGTON – Police have charged a young man in a drive-by shooting reported in November.

Marquees Rodriguez, 18, faces charges of illegal discharge of a firearm, first-degree reckless endangerment and second-degree breach of peace.

Police on Thursday said they were able to identify Rodriguez as the suspect in a shooting reported on Nov. 22.

Police said the incident involved two vehicles and occurred on the Berlin Turnpike, at the Pane Road intersection, around 7:30 p.m. Officers were called there around that time on the report of shots fired.

According to police, witnesses saw a dark gray SUV and a white SUV heading north on the Berlin Turnpike. At some point, as the vehicles proceeded through the Pane Road intersection, the operator of the dark SUV began shooting at the white SUV, witnesses said.

Police said the driver of the dark SUV left the area, heading west on Pane Road, while the operator of the white SUV headed south on the Berlin Turnpike.

Police on Thursday did not say how they identified Rodriguez as a suspect in the shooting – during which no injuries were reported.

The 18-year-old is being held on $25,000 bond and is scheduled to appear before a judge in Hartford Superior Court on Aug. 31.
