State reports over 160 new coronavirus-associated deaths; area cities, towns all in Red Alert

The state reported over 160 coronavirus-associated deaths over the past week and had another day where the positivity rate for cases was over 20%.

The state reported 161 virus-associated deaths Thursday, bringing that total to 9,442.

New Britain, Bristol, Berlin, Newington, Plymouth, Plainville and Southington all remained in Red Alert status as well for coronavirus cases Thursday. The entire state except for Canaan is currently in Red Alert.

The state reported 9,604 new positive cases out of 47,380 tests, a positivity rate of 20.27%, since Wednesday.

There was a decrease in residents hospitalized with the virus over the past day, dropping by 22, for a total of 1,917. There are 523 currently in Hartford County hospitals, second most in the state and eight less than Wednesday.

According to the state, of the 1,917 patients currently hospitalized with laboratory-confirmed covid-19, 1,288 (67.2%) are not fully vaccinated.

Currently, there have been 2,560,906 state residents who are fully vaccinated against coronavirus. A total of 1,138,250 have received an additional dose.
