Newington Library 5K Challenge Road Race returns for 24th year; here's how to take part

The awaited return of the Newington Library 5K Challenge Road Race will take place on Sunday, Oct. 3. This is the 24th year of the race with all proceeds benefiting the library and its future growth.

Same-day registration will be from 7:30 to 8:45 a.m., and the race will begin promptly at 9 a.m. across from Mill Pond Park. Walkers are welcome and strollers are allowed on the course.

There are several options for registering for the race: participants may register online at; participants may pick up paper registration forms at the library; and forms can be downloaded on the library’s website ( Mail completed forms to 100 Garfield St., Newington, CT, 06111 or drop off in-person to the library’s Information Desk.

If you cannot attend the race but would like to support the library, you can register as a virtual runner/walker during the registration process ($25 per person). Event T-shirts will be available for you to pick up at the library during the two weeks after the race.

Advanced registration fees, accepted through Oct. 2, are $25 for adults and $10 for children (12 and under). Same-day fees are $30 per person and $10 for children. The first 250 registrants will receive a Dri-Fit T-shirt and all proceeds benefit the Lucy Robbins Welles Library.

At the end of the race, refreshments will be provided by Dunkin’ Donuts, the Friends of the Lucy Robbins Welles Library and Veggie World of Newington. Awards will be given to the top overall male and female winners as well as first and second male and female division winners. A raffle prize drawing will take place after the awards ceremony; you must be present to win. All participants will receive a 2021 Dining Partner Ticket valid at participating local restaurants.
