NEWINGTON - Town leaders plan to present the 2019 State of the Town the first week of March.
Sponsored by the Newington Chamber of Commerce, the annual address is an opportunity for residents to learn about the current status of town affairs straight from the people in charge.
Those will be Newington Town Manager Tanya Lane and Mayor Roy Zartarian, who coordinate their individual presentations to cover different areas of interest.
The breakfast is set for Thursday, March 7 at Newington High School, 605 Willard Ave. If Newington schools are delayed or canceled that day, the event will be held on Friday, March 8.
The NHS Culinary Academy will be preparing and serving a full breakfast to any members of the public wishing to attend. People are asked to R.S.V.P. to the Chamber by next Thursday, Feb. 28.
Forms are available in the Chamber office at 1046 Main St. or online at newingtonchamber.com/events. Tickets are $15 per Chamber member or $20 for non-Chamber members.
Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. with breakfast served at 8, to be followed by the morning’s program. Lane and Zartarian will take questions from the audience during their respective discussions.
The mayor is planning to focus on economic development, among other topics, in his address.
“I will be highlighting new business activity in town and infrastructure projects along with areas of development opportunities,” Zartarian said this week.
There are several parcels of land currently being sought by developers, including the former Eversource property at 3333 Berlin Turnpike, and the site adjacent to the CTfastrak Station at the corner of Fenn Road and Cedar Street. Additionally, building plans are being finalized for a senior housing complex at the top of Route 175.
“We’re hoping to see a groundbreaking fairly soon,” the mayor pointed out.
He’ll be elaborating on these and other projects during the program.
