NEWINGTON - The Connecticut Humane Society is declaring last months “Clear the Shelters” event a success, as all of its furry friends have now found forever homes.

The CHS matched 89 pets with families on Aug. 18 in just three of its locations across the state. All types of pets, ranging from puppies to guinea pigs, were adopted.

“People had lined up at our Newington location in the morning, with some knowing already which pet they wanted to meet after viewing [our] website, and others deciding once they came inside to see the critters,” CHS’s Susan Wollschlager said.

Though not every pet was adopted on that exact day, all eventually found homes in the days that followed.

One of the most “special” adoptions that day was for 11-year-old cat Hank, who received medical care while at the CHS.

We’ve already heard from his family,” Wollschlager said. “They said he’s doing well with the other furry friends in his new home and that he’s playing and very happy.”

Despite the success the day brought, Wollschlager said that had it not been for both the adopters, supporters and sponsors, the day would have never been possible.

“[It] was an exciting day at CHS that promoted adoption of pets in need,” Wollschlager said. It even reminded people about all the different types of pets who are waiting to be adopted, here in Connecticut and beyond.”

Though the event may be over, the CHS said they are always taking in new animals who are looking for loving homes. Potential adopters will participate in an adoption interview and then fill out a questionnaire. Families with other pets will also have the opportunity to bring them in to meet their potential new friend.

Anyone interested in adopting or donating to pets who are receiving medical care can visit the CHS in Newington, or go online to CThumane.org.
