NEWINGTON - The town’s favorite insurance agency is inviting area residents to enjoy great music, food and raffles at a giant party this fall.

Connecticut Insurance Exchange at 112 Market Square is not hosting the event, but owner Ron Tregoning and his wife and Marketing Vice President Melanie Thomson-Tregoning are officers of the organization that is. In fact, Melanie presides over the Greater Newington Charitable Society, a non-profit foundation that supports good causes in Newington and other communities.

The GNCS’ Indian Summer BBQ Bash is set for Saturday, Nov. 3, from 6 to 11 p.m. at the former St. Mary School building at 652 Willard Ave., Newington.

Tickets are $50 per person or $350 for a table of eight. They are available in advance only, through a GNCS member or at

The event serves as the organization’s largest annual fundraiser.

Proceeds from tickets sales and raffles will go to benefit at-risk youth at the Autism Center at the Hospital for Special Care in New Britain, along with military veterans and their families being served by Fisher House CT, located on the campus of the West Haven Veterans Hospital.

The Connecticut Insurance Exchange (CIE) will be the evening’s entertainment sponsor.

“It’s going to be a lot of fun,” Melanie said.

Her husband is a veteran of the Vietnam War, and the family are dedicated supporters of veterans. Since being founded 41 years ago, the CIE has donated over a quarter-million dollars to various local causes.

The upcoming bash is a fun way to raise money for the GNCS and recruit new membership.

Eclectic and funky pop band Jamie’s Junk Show will be performing Jimmy Buffett and other music. There will be a barbecue dinner cooked and served by Up in Smoke BBQ based in Portland, along with a Tea Cup Raffle, Wine Raffle and 50/50 Cash Raffle.

Soda, water, coffee and tea are included in the ticket price, and guests can bring their own adult beverages (BYOB).

CIE works with over 30 different insurance providers to offer clients a wide umbrella of protection. Agents connect people with the best rates for auto, home and life insurance, along with many other types of policies, from business and travel protection to event and pet insurance.

Connecticut Magazine named CIE a Five-Star Insurance Professional again this year and the agency was also voted the No. 1 insurance agency in the 2018 Newington Chamber of Commerce’s Best of Newington Awards.

Connecticut Insurance Exchange is open Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., or by appointment.
