NEWINGTON - In its 41st year in business, Connecticut Insurance Exchange is expanding its network.

The company added two more top providers recently, rounding out its list of available insurances. Kemper and Ohio Mutual are now among the 30 plans CIE staff are connecting with clients, who seek a variety of protection options.

“If you wanted to make a phone call for 15 minutes or less to get insurance you’re only going to get one quote from a company like GEICO, while we’re going to research up to 30 companies,” Marketing Vice President Melanie Thomson-Tregoning explained. “Not only are we going to match you with the best price but also the best service and coverage for what you’re looking for.”

That might be a guarantee that all hope is not lost along with your luggage, when travel insurance becomes a priority for that big trip.

This can protect travelers who encounter unforeseen events on or before their excursions, such as stolen goods, identity theft and medical issues.

It would have proved essential for those traveling during Hurricane Maria last fall, for example. Canceled hotel reservations and flights are covered under available plans, which start as low as $100.

While auto, property and home insurance are crucial for most people and the best plans are readily available through CIE, there are many other types of insurance protection.

Pet insurance, for example, can take care of those family members that can’t care for themselves. Customers can be reimbursed for their pet’s health-related products and procedures as much as 90 percent.

There’s also insurance to cover large-scale events like weddings, anniversary parties and birthday bashes.

Let’s say weather or a family emergency forces a cancellation. While most venues don’t offer a full refund up to the date of an event, this loss can be protected.

CIE rates and coverage are competitive with other outlets.

“There are a lot of people out there that need to know they have other options besides one trick ponies for insurance,” Tregoning said. “We’re not stuck with one particular line of product. We can offer you a lot more.”

Now beginning its fourth decade in Newington, the company has given over a quarter-million dollars back to the community through charities it supports.
