BRISTOL - Ten regional state champions begin their road to the Little League Softball World Series Saturday, as the Little League Softball East Region Tournament kicks off this morning at the A. Bartlett Giamatti Little League Training Center’s J. Breen Field for the right to head to the national tournament in Portland, Ore.

Representing Connecticut is the Milford Girls Softball Little League team, which blitzed its way through the state tournament with a 3-0 run, capped by a 10-0 win over Waterford on Monday. Milford outscored its state tournament opponents 29-2, taking down Wallingford 10-0 and Waterford 9-2 in the two teams’ first meeting.

Milford has not faced elimination yet, having won six straight games. The club defeated Wilton once and last season’s East Region representative, Fairfield, twice in the sectional tournament. That included a 9-4 victory over Fairfield in eight innings in the title game.

Other teams competing in the East Region tournament include: Delaware champion Laurel Little League, Maine champion Windham Little League, Maryland champion Berlin Little League, Massachusetts champion Peabody Tanners Softball Little League, New Jersey champion Robbinsville Little League, New York champion Ozone Howard Little League of Queens, Pennsylvania champion South Little League of South Williamsport, Rhode Island champion East Greenwich Little League and Vermont champion Missisquoi Little League of Franklin County.

Double-elimination tournament play begins Saturday, with Rhode Island facing New Jersey at 10 a.m., followed by three more games, including Milford facing Vermont in the day’s final game starting at 8 p.m.

The championship game is scheduled for Thursday, July 25, at noon.

There is no admission charge for any Little League Tournament games, although the organization does accept donations to aid in funding its programs. All softball tournament games this year will also be streamed live on ESPN+, available for a fee through the ESPN app.
