NEW BRITAIN - The Nutmeg State Games is getting ready to reach a milestone - celebrating its 30th anniversary.
Registration is now open for the 30th annual Games set to be held Jul 14 through Aug. 5. The city of New Britain will be hosting the Nutmeg State Games for the ninth consecutive year.
The Nutmeg State Games seek to promote and reinforce the Olympic spirit of the Connecticut community through competition. Over 7,500 athletes, 1,100 volunteers and 25,000-plus spectators are expected to participate in New Britain and throughout the Hartford County.
For the Games, the state of Connecticut is divided into four regions: North, South, East, and West. An athlete’s residency determines what region he or she will be grouped into. The various competitions will be played throughout central Connecticut in over 30 of the state’s top athletics facilities.
Team sports offered in the 2018 Nutmeg State Games include baseball, basketball, fast-pitch softball, field hockey, ice hockey, lacrosse, roller hockey and soccer. All team sport tournaments will be a round robin/pool play format, with a minimum guarantee of three or four games.
Individual sport offerings include archery, BMX, cycling criterium, fencing, figure skating, golf, gymnastics, judo, pickleball, shooting, swimming, track & field and wrestling.
