HARTFORD - The Travelers Championship field just got a little more competitive.

Paul Casey, Patrick Reed and Charley Hoffman - three players ranked in the top 30 in the Official World Golf Ranking - have committed to play in this year’s tournament the Travelers Championship announced Tuesday afternoon.

The three will join a list that already includes Rory McIlroy, Justin Thomas and Bubba Watson.

“These are great additions to our player field,” tournament director Nathan Grube said in a statement. “Paul, Patrick and Charley are having strong seasons, have had prior success at TPC River Highlands and they’ve all won multiple times on the PGA Tour.”

Casey will be making his fourth consecutive appearance at the Travelers Championship, where he has shown an ability to have plenty of success.

He tied for fifth place in 2017 after tying for 17th in 2016. His best finish was in his tournament debut in 2015 when he lost to Watson on the second hole of a sudden-death playoff.

Casey recently earned his second career win on the PGA Tour at this year’s Valspar Championship. He also has 13 career victories on the European Tour and has played in the Ryder Cup for Team Europe three times (2004, 2006, 2008). Casey is No. 13 in this week’s world ranking.

The player Casey tied with last year was Reed. It was his best tournament showing in six starts.

Reed has five victories in his Tour career, most recently at The Barclays in 2016. In his past two stroke-play tournaments, Reed tied for second at the Valspar Championship then tied for seventh at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. He is ranked No. 24 in the world and has represented the United States five times: twice in the Ryder Cup (2014, 2016), twice at the Presidents Cup (2015, 2017) and at the 2016 Summer Olympics.

Hoffman is coming off one of the best seasons in his PGA Tour career, which began in 2006. Hoffman set career bests in cuts made and money earned, matched his season high with seven top-10 finishes and played on the victorious U.S. Presidents Cup team in 2017. He has four Tour victories and is No. 28 in the world rankings.

In eight starts at the Travelers Championship, Hoffman has three finishes of seventh or better. He tied for second at TPC River Highlands in 2012 and ties for third in 2017.

The 2018 Travelers Championship will be held June 18-24. Tickets are available. For more information on this year’s tournament, visit www.TravelersChampionship.com .
