Emily Guion, 42
Democrat, Board of Education
Joe and I have been married for 17 years. We have 2 kids- a freshman at the high school and a seventh grader at Martin Kellogg.
Education: I graduated from Ledyard High School, earned a BS from UCONN in Early Childhood Education, and a Masters from The University of Hartford in Elementary Education. I am also a certified teacher.
Profession: I currently work for the UCONN Medical School as a Patient Instructor.
Public service: I am completing my first term on the Board of Education. I am a member of our Curriculum Committee and am the liaison to the Youth Adult Council. Before being on the BOE, I served as president of the E. Green PTO.
If elected, I will work to improve the BOE's communication with the community (through increased financial transparency) and to build support for the board's priorities (ie: opening the high school STEM academies and reducing class sizes). During my time on the BOE I have shown that I strive to be an informed, active member by asking lots of questions, listening, working collaboratively, and most importantly, by advocating for what's in the best interest of our students!
