CCSU women's basketball has win streak snapped in loss to Mount St. Mary's

EMMITSBURG, Md. - The Central Connecticut women’s basketball team’s four-game winning streak came to an end on Monday night, as Mount St. Mary’s defeated the Blue Devils 76-56.

CCSU had a rough night from the floor, connecting on just 19 of 68 field goals.

Rookie led Central with 12 points.

The Blue Devils (6-19, 6-8 NEC) trailed by double figures for most of the contest, as Mount St. Mary’s improved to 6-9 in the conference and 9-17 overall.

After Mount St. Mary’s took a 24-10 lead after the first quarter, netted the first four points of the second period, took an offensive charge on the Mount’s Juliette Lawless, and forced two Mount turnovers to give the Blue Devils some energy.

Junior led the Blue Devils on the boards with eight rebounds, while classmate dished out a game-high tying five assists.

Mount’s Caroline Hummell paced four players in double-figures with a game-high 17 points. Juliette Lawless got her first double-double of the season with 13 points and 14 rebounds.

On Saturday, CCSU will face Saint Francis U. on Senior Day in the first game of a double-header with the men’s basketball team at 1 p.m.

Robert Morris will then take on the Blue Devils on Monday, Feb. 19, at 7 p.m. for the annual breast cancer awareness game.
